Weed and Seed Sites - Map Viewing Controls

The Weed and Seed Data Center Web site provides several different ways for users to zoom in or out or move a map when viewing a Weed and Seed designated area. The following shows how these controls can be used.

After selecting a Weed and Seed site and clicking on the "Map Site" button, a screen similar to the one below should be displayed.

To Zoom In or Out

zoom scale

Clicking on one of the horizontal bars on the zoom scale control will change the map window to display an area of a specific number of square miles such as one mile, three miles, or 10 miles in length and width. Moving the cursor over a bar will show the square miles that will be displayed if you click on it. Clicking on the "+" or "-"signs will change the map displayed by one bar up or down the zoom scale.

zoom buttons

These zoom buttons can change the map window two ways. If you click on the "+" or "-" signs and then click on any location in the map being displayed, the map window will be centered on the location where you clicked and the area's dimensions will be either reduced by half (e.g., 4.27 square miles to 2.135 square miles) if you had selected the "+" sign or increased by twice the dimensions (e.g., 4.27 square miles to 8.54 square miles) if the "-" sign was used.

You can also zoom the map to a specific area by clicking on the "+" or "-" signs and then clicking on a corner of the area that you want to view and dragging a box across that area (see below). A light green shading will indicate the area to be displayed.

When you release the left mouse button, the map window will be redrawn to the area that you have selected.

To Move a Map

There are two ways that a map can be shifted in any direction without changing the dimensions of the area being displayed. Clicking on any of the black triangles that surround the map window will move the map in the direction indicated by that triangle in increments of about a tenth of the dimension shown.

map grabber icon

The map grabber icon will allow you to pan the map area so you can quickly center the map window to whatever location you wish. Click on the map grabber icon and then click and hold the left mouse button while over the map location that you want to use for shifting the map display in your chosen direction.
